I am about 75% down on a very heavy bet in Anic since I started buying in late 21. And despite that it’s the investment that I follow with the most interest and fondness. I am sure this is the future and will turn out good at the end. This is not investment advice! Just irrational conviction!
Hey, so I'm not the only one who took a punt on this! I did so after hearing Jim Mellon wax lyrical about it to Merryn Somerset-Webb on a Moneyweek podcast. Bought some in Nov 2021 for nearly 25p and chasing the falling knife a few more in June 2022 at around 16p. I'm now 82% down.
well, we both took action after listening to exactly the same podcast! And bought at the same peak. Still i always thought about this as a buy and wait 10 years. And so i will do. But it is hard to look at where it is today, i must admit.
Jim was very persuasive. One thing that stayed with me from that podcast is that 10% annualised return over the long term should be good enough. I'd be happy with that, I know. Are you tempted to catch that ANIC knife again? I am.
Think it's worth calling out a new interview with Mark Warner who is now reporting that Letters of Intent are now not "over double" but "nearly triple".
Does that tell you what you need to know? I've linked to it and update the article here:
Excellent write up and good news about new CEO for Solar Foods.
Listened into their investor roadshow late last year and so depressing how slow they were at building new plant. Taking a year to decide location and longer just to build the shell...must be a shed they could just lease somewehre.
In China or Elon world both of these would be days and if not possible in FInland they should build in Romainia or wherever. Also too fussy with sourcing their hydrogen and (ironically iirc) co2 from green sources. That is not necessary at start (or could always bung a solar panel at back of factory for 0.1%) for marketing purposes.
Hopefully new CEO puts a rocket up them as otherwise they will find their business taken by someone else.
Onego Bio talk a good game but also seem to be very slow in getting production up...tho this may be partly due to liberation labs i guess. if liberaltion labs now able to meet new deadline it si double bubble for ANIC investors as their companies may be first in line to use it.
Hey Oak, great as always. Jim Mellon recently picked up some more shares. I’m still surprised about how little, thinking about his net worth, but anyway.
One of my favourite anic portfolio holdings is CaliforniaCultured. Coffee and Chocolate. Also already in contact with Japanese producers. So also revenue generating soon.
Onego and Every should also join that club soon. First Formo product can be bought in big German retailer store (Rewe).
Again, thinking about the sice of all of these markets, tho opportunities are immense.
Of course I’m down big time like anyone who found ANIC too early. But like Gordon said: It’s very enjoyable following the progress of those companies.
So the list of companies who are starting to generate revenue soon or already are doing so (not necessarily profit):
LibLabs (early 2026)
Meatly (started)
Formo (started)
All G (early 2026? They were talking about using LibLabs)
SolarFoods (started)
CaliforniaCultured (started)
BlueNalu (2026??)
Let’s hope scaling will work well and profitability can be reached soon.
Seconded that it's a great write up and there's lots to be positive about. I invest in ANIC. A note about Meatly: listening to a podcast with the CEO from summer last year, he suggested selling at only one store due to limitations in scale of production rather than demand. But emailing Pets at Home might still be useful to show there is interest. Also the product on sale is only around 5% cultured meat, with other stuff added to make it 'balanced'.
Hi Paul, thank you and I'll add in your extra details to the article tomorrow. I noticed "The Pack" were plant-based/vegan so did wonder about whether blending was part of this.
Thanks for your response and the detailed article. Watched a few interviews with Mark Warner the most I found was him mentioning “once we’re operating we believe it’ll be profitable in the first year. The facility itself, once it’s built, you put the front end capital in, the facility has very, very solid operating margins. And we’re quite confident in the first year we’ll be cash flow positive and profitable.”
Hi Sahil, I went through each of the Mark Warner videos looking for it also and couldn't find it either. I wonder whether it might have been an Anthony Chow or a Jim Mellon video. But of course they might have been quoting the Canaccord Genuity article.
This stock will minimum 3x this year imo. Liberation labs alone is worth currently 5p on the SP based on funding. When operational (hopefully this year) it will be a 450million, this alone will cover NAV.
Fully expect Lib Labs to prioritise ANICs portfolio in scale up. Win Win
This is without considering the other 27 live companies

Fortunately, mine was not a heavy bet.

I have no fingers left to catch anything at the moment :-).. i might add some at the time of the new ISA year opening though!
Simon Thompson from Investors' Chronicle just tipped it in his Bargain Shares 2025.

Other than you no one covers this unique company. Thank you
Interestingly, Paul Scott mentioned it on his podcast last week.
Simon Thompson of Investors Chronicle agree with us and has a BUY rating.

After what like 90% drawdown because that's how we role, it does seem someone is buying. Cant wait for Oak's new post.

Yeah. In some way I miss a bit a sense of urgency at Onego Bio, looking at the bird flu tail wind.

“with forecast EBITDA of $30m from mid 2025” where is this data coming from?
Good question. Almost certain the source is a video interview with Mark Warner CEO of Liberation Labs.
This broker note puts it at $32.8m EBITDA (see page 7):

Didn’t find any specifics on EBITDA.

This is not an independent source though since intertwined with JM and highly invested themselves.
